Indonesia eSIM at a glance
Indonesia eSIM plans start at €2.80 for 500MB over a day and reach €55.99 for unlimited data over 30 days. Coverage uses Telkomsel (the dominant national network, especially outside Java) and Indosat Ooredoo. 5G is in Jakarta, Surabaya, Bali (Denpasar and Kuta), and Bandung. 4G LTE covers Java thoroughly, plus all the populated areas of Bali, Lombok, Yogyakarta, and the bigger islands. Activation takes about 90 seconds.

How a Indonesia eSIM compares
Carrier roaming
~€13/day
≈ €182 for 2 weeks
Typical international roaming charge from major EU/UK/US carriers in Indonesia. Caps often activate after €60/month and throttle to dial-up speeds.
Local SIM at airport
€15 to €40
one-time plus setup hassle
Indonesian tourist SIMs at Bali (DPS) or Jakarta (CGK) airport kiosks cost €15 to €30 for a week. Activation requires passport registration and the queue at DPS can be 30+ minutes after a long-haul flight.
RoamingFlex eSIM
€8.95
3GB / 15 days
Same plan covers 2 weeks of travel in Indonesia. QR code in under 90 seconds. No app, no airport queue, no passport scan.
How much data you actually need in Indonesia
Tourists in Indonesia average 440MB/day. Indonesia tourist data averages 400 to 480 MB per day. Gojek and Grab both dominate ride-hailing and food delivery; you'll use one of them daily. Google Maps handles navigation. Bali traffic apps update in real time. Free WiFi is patchy outside resorts. Source: RoamingFlex 22-destination data usage dataset (CC BY 4.0).
Insider tip
Pre-install Gojek and add a payment method (credit card or PayPal) before you arrive in Bali. It runs everything from rides to food delivery to massage bookings. The Grab alternative also works, but Gojek has better Bali coverage and cheaper rates on Java.

Indonesia eSIM frequently asked questions
Will the eSIM work across Bali, including Ubud and Uluwatu?
Yes. Telkomsel has full 4G LTE coverage across Bali including Ubud, Uluwatu, Canggu, Seminyak, and the eastern coast. 5G is live in Denpasar and Kuta. Some rural rice-paddy areas inland have weaker signal.
Does it work on Lombok and the Gili Islands?
Yes for Lombok with full 4G coverage. The Gili Islands (Gili Trawangan, Air, Meno) have 4G from the Lombok mainland transmitters, though signal can be weak on the far side of Gili Trawangan.
Will it cover Komodo and the boat trips?
Coverage on Labuan Bajo (the boat-departure port on Flores) is solid. The actual Komodo island boat trips drop into intermittent or no signal once you're out at sea, which is normal for any provider.
How much data do I need for a 14-day Bali trip?
5GB to 10GB is the right range. Gojek runs constantly in the background, photo uploads add up fast in scenic places, and most travellers underestimate. If you're working remotely, jump to Unlimited.
Does the plan cover both Java and Sumatra?
Yes. The Indonesia plan covers all populated islands including Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, Kalimantan, and the eastern islands. Telkomsel has the widest reach across the archipelago.
Will it work for tethering to a laptop in Bali co-working spaces?
Yes, every plan includes tethering. Bali 4G speeds are routinely 30 to 60 Mbps download, which is fine for video calls and remote work. The eSIM is a reliable backup when Canggu cafe WiFi inevitably gets congested at 2pm.
