United Arab Emirates eSIM at a glance
UAE eSIM plans start at €2.95 for 500MB over a day and reach €58.99 for unlimited data over 30 days. How a United Arab Emirates eSIM compares
Carrier roaming
~€16/day
≈ €224 for 2 weeks
Typical international roaming charge from major EU/UK/US carriers in United Arab Emirates. Caps often activate after €60/month and throttle to dial-up speeds.
Local SIM at airport
€15 to €40
one-time plus setup hassle
Etisalat and du tourist SIMs are €30 to €50 a week at the airport. They require a passport plus a UAE visa stamp. Activation is fast but the carrier kiosks at DXB charge a heavy tourist premium.
RoamingFlex eSIM
€9.43
3GB / 15 days
Same plan covers 2 weeks of travel in United Arab Emirates. QR code in under 90 seconds. No app, no airport queue, no passport scan.
How much data you actually need in United Arab Emirates
Tourists in United Arab Emirates average 420MB/day. UAE tourist data averages 390 to 460 MB per day. Careem dominates ride-hailing (it bought Uber's Middle East business), Talabat handles food delivery, and Apple Maps and Google Maps both work well. UAE Wi-Fi is reliable everywhere from the malls to the metro. Source: RoamingFlex 22-destination data usage dataset (CC BY 4.0).
Insider tip
Both Skype and WhatsApp voice and video calls were historically blocked in the UAE. WhatsApp text and voice notes work fine on a regular data connection; WhatsApp voice and video calls still don't work over local UAE networks for non-residents. Use BOTIM, ToTok, or any VPN if you need voice or video calling.

United Arab Emirates eSIM frequently asked questions
Will WhatsApp calls work on the UAE eSIM?
WhatsApp text and voice notes work. WhatsApp voice and video calls are blocked on most local UAE networks for non-residents, including roaming and tourist eSIM data. This is a UAE-government restriction, not a RoamingFlex limit. BOTIM and ToTok are the approved alternatives, or use a VPN.
Does the eSIM work on the Dubai Metro?
Yes. Etisalat and du have full coverage on the Red and Green lines, including in tunnels. 5G works inside stations and on most surface sections.
Will it cover the desert resorts and dune safaris?
Coverage is reliable in the resort properties (Bab Al Shams, Al Maha) and on the main access roads. Deep in the dunes you'll drop to weak 4G or no signal, which is partly the point of being out there.
How much data do I need for 5 days in Dubai?
3GB is enough for most short trips. The malls, hotels, and metro all have WiFi. Bump to 5GB if you're doing a lot of Careem rides or streaming.
Does the plan cover both Dubai and Abu Dhabi?
Yes. The UAE plan covers all seven emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah. The drive between Dubai and Abu Dhabi has continuous coverage on the E11.
Will it work at Dubai Expo City and the desert music festivals?
Yes. Both Etisalat and du have invested heavily in stadium and event coverage. Even at the densest crowd points signal stays usable, which is more than you can say for most music festivals globally.
