How a Spain eSIM compares
Carrier roaming
~€9/day
≈ €126 for 2 weeks
Typical international roaming charge from major EU/UK/US carriers in Spain. Caps often activate after €60/month and throttle to dial-up speeds.
Local SIM at airport
€15 to €40
one-time plus setup hassle
Movistar and Vodafone shops sell tourist SIMs for €15 to €20 a week, but they ask for a passport and require you to register with the carrier under Spanish anti-terrorism rules. It takes 20 minutes.
RoamingFlex eSIM
€7.99
3GB / 15 days
Same plan covers 2 weeks of travel in Spain. QR code in under 90 seconds. No app, no airport queue, no passport scan.
How much data you actually need in Spain
Tourists in Spain average 360MB/day. Spanish tourist data sits around 330 to 400 MB per day. Cabify and Bolt are the local Uber alternatives in most cities, Google Maps does most of the navigation work, and Renfe's app handles the AVE high-speed trains. Free WiFi is everywhere in cities and reliable in hotels. Source: RoamingFlex 22-destination data usage dataset (CC BY 4.0).
Insider tip
Spain operates on much later hours than most of Europe. Lunch is 2pm, dinner is 9pm or later. Restaurants are mostly closed between 5 and 8pm. Plan your Google Maps searches accordingly, especially in smaller towns where the WiFi-only fallback won't save you.

Spain eSIM frequently asked questions
Does the eSIM work in the Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca)?
Yes. Movistar and Vodafone cover all three Balearic islands with full 4G LTE. 5G is live in Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza Town.
Will it work in the Canary Islands?
Yes. The Canaries are part of Spain and the eSIM covers them on the same plan. 4G is strong across Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura.
Does it cover the AVE high-speed rail routes?
Yes. Coverage along Madrid to Barcelona, Madrid to Seville, and Madrid to Malaga is consistent on 4G LTE, with occasional 5G handoffs near the bigger cities. Short tunnel sections drop signal briefly.
How much data do I need for a week in Spain?
3GB is enough for a single-city trip (Barcelona only, say). Bump to 5GB for a multi-city itinerary, especially if you're doing Madrid plus Andalusia.
Can I use it in Andorra or Gibraltar from Spain?
No. Both are outside Spain's mobile coverage area. Andorra has its own carrier and Gibraltar uses UK-affiliated networks. RoamingFlex sells separate plans for both if needed.
Will the eSIM cover hikes like the Camino de Santiago?
Mostly yes. Movistar has the best rural footprint in northern Spain, so most stages of the Camino Francés and Camino del Norte are covered. Some forested or remote sections in Galicia drop briefly.
