United Kingdom eSIM plans start at €2.50 for 500MB over a day and reach €49.99 for unlimited data over 30 days. How a United Kingdom eSIM compares

Carrier roaming

~€6/day

≈ €84 for 2 weeks

Typical international roaming charge from major EU/UK/US carriers in United Kingdom. Caps often activate after €60/month and throttle to dial-up speeds.

Local SIM at airport

€15 to €40

one-time plus setup hassle

UK pay-as-you-go SIMs cost £10 to £20 a week at Tesco, Sainsbury's, or any high-street phone shop. You can buy one without ID, but it takes 15 to 30 minutes to provision.

RoamingFlex eSIM

€7.99

3GB / 15 days

Same plan covers 2 weeks of travel in United Kingdom. QR code in under 90 seconds. No app, no airport queue, no passport scan.

How much data you actually need in United Kingdom

Tourists in United Kingdom average 380MB/day. UK tourist data averages 350 to 420 MB per day. Citymapper (still better than Google Maps for the Tube), contactless payment apps, and the National Rail app handle most usage. Free WiFi is broadly available on the London Underground (in stations) and across most pubs and cafes. Source: RoamingFlex 22-destination data usage dataset (CC BY 4.0).

Insider tip

Get the Trainline app and pay for train tickets in advance. Walk-up fares on UK long-distance routes are wildly more expensive than booking even a day ahead, and the app lets you store the QR ticket offline. If you're in London for more than two days, an Oyster card or contactless capping beats day-passes.

United Kingdom eSIM frequently asked questions

Will the eSIM work on the London Underground?

Yes, in stations and on the Elizabeth Line. Most other Tube lines have no cell signal in tunnels, which is a TfL infrastructure quirk affecting every carrier. Stations themselves have 4G and increasingly 5G.

Does it cover the Scottish Highlands and remote areas?

Coverage is reliable in towns and along major A-roads, including the North Coast 500 route. Genuinely remote glens and the islands (Skye, Mull) have intermittent 4G that can fall to EDGE or nothing. EE has the widest rural footprint of the UK carriers.

Can I use it for the Eurostar to Paris?

It works in the UK portion of the journey including King's Cross St Pancras. You'll lose UK signal in the Channel Tunnel and then connect to French networks as the train arrives in Lille and Paris. RoamingFlex sells separate France plans if you want continuous data.

How much data do I need for a 5-day London trip?

3GB is comfortable. London has WiFi in most cafes, and the Underground free WiFi (in stations) is usable for quick checks. Bump to 5GB if you stream a lot on the move.

Will Apple Pay and Google Pay work?

Yes, on any contactless terminal. The UK runs almost entirely on contactless payments at this point. Even London buses haven't accepted cash since 2014.

Does the plan cover Northern Ireland?

Yes, the UK plan covers all four nations: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. If you're crossing into the Republic of Ireland (Dublin from Belfast, for example), you need a separate Ireland or Europe-regional plan.
